There’s no denying it – teachers are always crawling to the finish line when the school holidays are in sight. So, we decided to do a little recap of what teachers tend to do on the school holidays, and no, they don’t live at the school as some kids think.
A Typical School Holiday for Teachers
(1) Sleep, sleep and more sleep
If there is something that teachers need on the holidays, it’s time to recharge ready for the next term. And, a nice nanna nap during the day is just what the doctor ordered.
(2) We can drink our coffee hot!
Whilst many other occupations might not ‘get’ this… drinking our coffee hot on the school holidays is like drinking liquid gold! Though, some of us may have gotten used to drinking our coffee cold, but the thought of drinking our coffee and not getting interrupted is gold!
(2) Mmmmm hot coffee
There’s always been a joke on how to make iced coffee… and it’s to become a teacher. Well, holidays are a time when you can enjoy all the hot beverages… in peace and quiet!
(3) A good old Netflix binge
There’s nothing better than having time to sit on the couch and have a good binge on a show that you just can’t get enough of.
Looking for that show? Check out our blog: Teachers: The Best Netflix Series to Binge.
(4) Doing NOTHING
Sometimes – just doing nothing is the best thing! But, the holidays can get away from us… check out our blog A Teacher’s School Holiday To-Do List so you can get the most out of your holidays.
(5) Procrastination still happens
There’s usually a little bit of procrastination going on. We leave the last day of term with a bag full of marking or school work with good intentions to get it completed during the holidays. But, often the work doesn’t leave our work bag – and that’s ok!
(6) Always thinking
There’s no denying that at some point during the school holiday break we are thinking of a particular student and how we could help them reach their goals the next term. Or, perhaps it’s thinking about a new seating arrangement or how to best manage behaviour the next term.
It can be a complicated thought process…
(7) Justifying doing nothing
Teachers work so hard during the term that we often need to remind ourselves that we totally deserve the break! Whether it is justifying it for ourselves… or our family and friends!
(8) Quality family time
It’s a great opportunity to spend quality time with our family and friends… even if our kids don’t think so!
(9) Catch ups with our people
Catching up with the people that bring joy to our lives is another great way to recharge ready for the next term. It’s often those people who we can be ourselves with and act a little silly.
(10) Scrolling socials
Let’s not deny it… we often waste hours scrolling Instagram or Pinterest, dreaming of home renovations… but eventually ending up scrolling teaching-related content.
